Welcome, writers, witches, and daydreamers to the domain of the Storywitch. I’m a firm believer that magic and wonder needn’t be left behind in our adult lives. Sometimes as grown-ups we need it more than ever. This blog is a world of stories, folklore, adventures, and witchery. It’s a way to sprinkle magic in your life with spells, crystals, tarot and fairy tales. Here you will find the whimsical and the enchanted.

My name is Heather and I’m a Storywitch (a magical author), Ravenclaw, HSP, INFJ, Queen of Cups and eternal student, living somewhere deep in the English countryside. I wanted to be a writer ever since I realised that people wrote those magical things we call books. And talking of magic, I’ve been enchanted since I heard my first fairy tale. I first picked up a tarot deck when I discovered my grandma’s cards as a child, and I fell in love with witchcraft in my teens.

In my early 20s I fell in love and married my husband, but it wasn’t all plain sailing. I drifted through a variety of jobs, feeling lost and unfulfilled, and it wasn’t until 2013 when I started writing my first novel, Dark is the Sea, that I truly became bewitched with living a magical life every day through routines, rituals, gratitude, and adventure. I want creativity and magic to be accessible to anyone.

I adore getting lost in bookshops or metaphysical stores, Scotland, wild swimming, herbalism, collecting crystals and tarot decks, scented candles, watercolour painting, perfume, stationery, learning languages, travelling, the colour violet, and Gothic films.

My favourite writers are Anne Rice, Alice Hoffman, Francesca Lia Block, and Angela Carter.

A little bit more about me:

I grew up in the Scottish Highlands and get homesick for those dramatic landscapes a lot

I was born just after the Wolf moon on a Mo(o)nday

I am happiest at home, by the sea or hiking through woodland

I have a form of synaesthesia where I see certain words as colours

I have two crazy miniature schnauzers called Billy and Betty.

I have a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing, and an MA in Gothic Literature, Film, Culture and Counter Culture

I am obsessed with learning and am constantly devouring books and taking courses. I’ve taken numerous courses in Tarot and Witchcraft, as well as courses in Feminine Studies, Animal Communication, Herbalism, Crystals and I am Reiki I certified
